We have a 100m x 40m arena specifically for driving, available for practice and competition. Rumbolds Farm Inside Out
report by Adam Wyllie

Yet again we were blessed with glorious weather at Rumbolds Stud Farm, as we have at every event we have held their so far. The day started off at 10am with competitors driving this year’s indoor test in the main arena.
Judging was done in the usual indoor way, by marking paces and precision separately and then combining the scores together through very complicated mathematical methods! Sarah Garnett who judged both aspects also included a comments sheet for competitors stating the main problems of the test and how it could be rectified, which is very useful information as it gives the competitors something to improve upon before their next event.
While the tests where driven assessors watched the test from outside, and once completed, they gave the competitors constructive criticism as to what they thought was right/wrong and good/bad about the test.
Competitors then went to compete the cones phase of the competition. The course was well design by Graham to make full use of the small arena. The cones course wasn’t timed, but this proved just aswell as most competitors found it hard enough to go clear in the cones, with the only two clears in the NOVICE class.

There was then a break for lunch while obstacles were designed in the main Arena.
Classes then drove the two obstacles in the same way as an indoor event. The obstacles proved quite tricky for some, with quite a few getting lost and some having knock downs. The skiddy surface of the arena certainly taught drivers how to respect the ground they were driving on, as there were a few hair-raising moment throughout the afternoon.
The class winners all went away with a special prize, and everyone went home with a Rosette and a smile on the face.
We would like to thank Sue & Andy Robertson for again allowing us to host on their land, and Robert and Annie Wilkinson for their help throughout the day.
Special Thanks goes to Sarah Garnett, Gi Frith, Sarah Simmons, Pippa Bassett, Jo Rennison and Nigel Dipple whose help and expertise where invaluable, and to all who helped to make the day the success it was.

We hope to see you at the Indoor Training Day at Merrist Wood on the 18th October.

At the Windsor Park Equestrian Club Carriage Driving Championships.. Annie Wilkinson won the Open Horse event with Heritiere her Breton Postier mare. A spirited dressage was followed by a "white knuckles" cones course. She made certain of the trophy with an exceptionally fast marathon!

09/08/09
Following on from her success with the heavy horse tandem at Rumbolds first ever driving event, Annie Wilkinson won the open horse marathan at Windsor Park the next week with Heritiere, our Postier Breton.
On the 19th August at Goodwood, it was the turn of husband Robert to take the honours, driving one of their tandems in the multiples section of the marathan.

Cones Extravaganza
report by Adam Wyllie

Brockham held is first event at Rumbold farm on Sunday, thanks to kind permission from Sue & Andy Robertson. 13 entries from near and far came to be part of what turned out to be a really fun day.
In the morning, 3 cone exercise where provided, each driver spent 10 minutes on each and drove it every single possible way. The exercises varied in difficulty so that there was something for drivers of all abilities.
Lunch was in the form of picnic brought by each driver, and during this time a cones course was designed incorporating the exercises from the morning. Each driver drove the course twice with a break between, and both the scores were added together to form a final result. It was great to see that all drivers had improved from the mornings ‘training’.
Prizes were given out once results were calculated, and everyone enjoyed finishing the last of Brockham birthday cake.
Great thanks to Sue and Andy Robertson for their permission to hold the fun event on their lovely land, and to Robert and Anne Wilkinson for their assistance and expertise throughout the day.
